After two years on the west coast, Dr. Maitre moved back to New England, first working at a mixed animal practice in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, before settling in the Berkshires in 2007. She has worked at many of the area small animal hospitals as a relief veterinarian, often filling in for staff doctors during vacations, maternity leaves and other short or extended absences. In 2010, Dr. Maitre became board certified in Canine & Feline Practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). The ABVP was established in 1978 and is accredited by a special committee of the American Veterinary Medical Association to recognize excellence in clinical practice. In order to obtain diplomate status, candidates must undergo a rigorous and demanding application process and pass a two day certification examination. Dr. Maitre's small animal interests include pain management, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and animal behavior. Since 2009, she has also owned and operated Berkshire Ambulatory Veterinary Services, a mobile large animal practice providing medical and surgical care to cattle, horses, sheep, goats, llamas and alpacas. Visit www.berkshirelargeanimal.com for more information. Dr. Maitre currently lives in Lenox with Gypsy, the best dog in the world, and Mr. Hosii, a cat who came with that name and comes when you call him! She loves the mix of cultural and recreational activities the Berkshires have to offer, and enjoys hiking, kayaking, playing soccer, and reading in her free time. |
